We lost our home in the Nashville floodwaters on May 01-02, 2010. We had little warning and were able to rescue a few sentimental items, our pets, and our vehicles before we evacuated. Some of our neighbours were not as lucky. The next day we were able to go back by boat to get some of the small wooden furniture and some other items, but most of the big items (piano, David's grandmother's couch and chairs, Angie's grandmother's cedar chest, any antique furniture, and the two bedroom suites, etc) were all under water.
A group started by our friends--for discussion, encouragement, sign-ups (clean-up, meals, etc.), clothes, and more. We are saturated, stunned, stressed, and slammed! We have such amazing friends; please check this page if you want to help! We love you!

Luckily we do have flood insurance. Even though the deductible is very high, we are very grateful that our mortgage company required us to have flood insurance (we are in a 100 flood plain). But the house has never flooded in the 40+ years it had been there even in the flood of '75! And a flood of this magnitude has never occurred in Nashville in recorded history. Even Sunday morning, we didn't think there was any chance that our house would flood. Many who lost their homes on our block did not have the insurance.
We also have an ideal place to stay for now. A friend (thanks Angela) is out of town till at least first of June. It nice because it's a good place to stay without having to feel like we are guests. Our guess is that we (and our dog and 3 cats) are going to need a long term place to stay (like 6 months), but we just don't know at this point. David had to back out of my annual humanitarian mission trip to Central America to deal with his own humanitarian needs!
Some guy on his porch yells at us to check his mail from our boat! LOL!
